Maria Lassnig (1919 –  2014) was an Austrian artist known for her painted self-portraits and her theory of "body awareness"In the 1950s, Lassnig was part of the Hundsgruppe ("Dog Pack") group. The works of the group were influenced by abstract expressionism and action painting. Though Lassnig began her career painting abstract works, she always created self-portraits. In 1948 Lassnig coined the term "body consciousness" to describe her practice. In this style, Lassnig only depicted the parts of her body that she actually felt as she worked. As such, many of her self-portraits depict figures that are missing body parts or use unnatural colours.

The inspirational artists: Anita Berber and Sebastian Droste

Sebastian Droste (1892-1927) & Anita Berber (1899-1928)

Anita Berber and Sebastian Droste were Weimar Republic cabaret performers. The content of their act seems a little silly, not unlike other cabaret acts that came before. But, whip out a dick or display a muff and you are assured of asses in seats. They managed to shock the seemingly un-shockable with their naked and kinky, but derivative stage performances. However, their real talent lay in refraction. Refracted through those with greater talent. This mismatched, headline hungry duo impacted only when caught in the orbit of an artist possessed with greater ability.

October 13 - @awerewolfmuse, inspired by Remedios Varo

Our beautiful model @werewolfmuse is fascinated by the art of Remedios Varo. can create fantastic surrealistic scenes and is a very fascinating art model. The Model: @awherewolfmuse

In this session she creates surrealistic poses using an animal skull, mirror, old telephone and strange plastic sculpture.

The inspirational artists: Remedios Varo

Remedios Varo Uranga (16 December 1908 – 8 October 1963) was a Spanish surrealist artist working in Spain, France, and Mexico.

Varo often painted images of women in confined spaces, achieving a sense of isolation. While Varo did not deem her own work as feminist.Varo's work redacts male interpretation of the female body. Her works focus on female empowerment and agency. The androgynous figures characteristic of her later work also challenge gender in that the figures do not fall neatly into gender normative categories.  Later in her career, her characters developed into her emblematic androgynous figures with heart-shaped faces, large almond eyes, and the aquiline noses that represent her own features. Varo often depicted herself through these key features in her paintings, regardless of the figure's gender.Varo tends to not play out personal strife on the canvas but rather portrays herself in various roles in surreal dreamscapes.

And Inky loves the powerful, political art of Kara Walker.

https://www.instagram.com/inkybunnycakes/

The inspirational artists :Kara Walker

Walker is best known for her panoramic friezes of cut-paper silhouettes, usually black figures against a white wall, which address the history of American slavery and racism through violent and unsettling imagery. She has also produced works in gouache, watercolor, video animation, shadow puppets, "magic-lantern" projections, as well as large-scale sculptural installations like her ambitious public exhibition with Creative Time called A Subtlety (2014). The black and white silhouettes confront the realities of history, while also using the stereotypes from the era of slavery to relate to persistent modern-day concerns. Her exploration of American racism can be applied to other countries and cultures regarding relations between race and gender, and reminds us of the power of art to defy conventions

The inspirational artist : Kees van Dongen

Kees van Dongen (1877-1968)  was a Dutch-French artist and one of the leading Fauves. Known for his vibrant paintings and prints of almond-eyed women and bourgeois leisure scenes. Some of the painter’s most famous works depict fashionable celebrities, including the French actress Brigitte Bardot. “The essential thing is to elongate the women, especially to make them slim,” he said of his models. “After that, you just need to make their jewelry bigger.”

The paintings he made in the period of 1905–1910 are considered by some to be his most important works. The themes of his work from that period are predominantly centered on the nightlife; he paints dancers, singers, masquerades and theatre. Van Dongen gained a reputation for his sensuous – at times garish – portraits of especially women.

June 30 - portrait and movement inspired by Japanese Butoh dance, model Ferzam

Theme: Japanese Butoh performance

Aleksander and Rebecca, Life Drawing Duo

Aleksander and Rebecca, Life Drawing Duo

Model: Ferzam

Ferzam is a performing artist committed to the performer's body as the ultimate vehicle of expression. Focused on the human weakness and feelings of the body.

Moreover, this dance of darkened light also surrounds us in an agonizing flayed rhythm that struggles to incarnate a stance towards life.

Ethereal, vaporous movements, the body as a place where time and space contract and expand, systole and diastole, paradoxically expansive opposition gestures. Ferzam gets in contact with his subconscious body , then translates it in very personal movements, connecting the inside and outside world.

The inspirational theme: Japanese Butoh performance

The term Botoh means "dance of darkness", and the form was built on a vocabulary of crude physical gestures and uncouth habits. Exploring the transmutation of the human body into other forms, such as those of animals. Botoh is a poetic and surreal choreographic language, to help the dancer transform into other states of being.

Ferzam will be covered in a white paint , transforming into different beings, with a focus on emotions in the face and body. Facial expressions of emotions and captivating body gestures.

The inspirational theme: Embracing Love

The art of the Dutch artist Aat Veldhoen is full of sensual lovemaking. Closeups of embracing couples.Veldhoen's work is included in the collections of various museums, including the Rembrandt House, the Amsterdam Museum and the Rijksmuseum. Because of the theme and the unvarnished realism, his work is closely linked to the emancipation and liberation of the individual from the oppressive straitjacket of church and state.   'I want to draw all, everything and everybody' was his motto. He made very beautiful erotic art.

The spider is a very important theme in the art of Louise. Bourgeois uses the spider, both predator (a sinister threat) and protector (an industrious repairer), to symbolise the mother figure. The spinning and weaving of the spider’s web links to Bourgeois’s own mother, who worked in the family’s tapestry restoration business.

Why do I do this?

1 – Women living with HIV need more support. Women are the second biggest group with HIV worldwide and they don’t have as much studies as men

2- HIV is not a gay virus and no one has to live a life thinking they are HIV positive because of their sexual orientation

3 – Pass the message of the U=U and stop making HIV people feel ashamed of their status

4 – Everyone deserves to be loved and no one should say otherwise.

THE SESSION
Clapmutt and Tresca will pose together and solo. The poses will tell their stories . Special is that they both will sign and perform as well. We worked on the theme modern saints : using the symbols of Christ and Maria.

Clapmutt made very impressive head ornaments out of condoms filled with water.

Please be generous in your support.

Donation will go to models and the good causes they work for. Help to shift the stigma of HIV.

Maud

We are very happy to have Maud modeling for us again. The poses will be inspired by the drawings and paintings of Egon Schiele. Schiele made very sensual and intimate drawings of his models. Maud will improvise on drawings made by Egon Schiele. We will have short poses with slow movement and long poses, so there is time to get all details. We look for ways to show the energy of Egon art in poses that give new interpretations.

Model : Maud

Maud is a French art model living in Gran Canaria. She has practiced theatre and dance for 15 years. She is also an actress and performer. A popular model for photography, painting and sculpture. April 28 Life Drawing with Floorlength Frankie

On April 28 Artmakessense will organize an online life drawing session inspired by the art and life of Käthe Kollwitz. The dark and dreary atmosphere, which Kollwitz could so splendidly depict, will be embodied by our model for this session: Floorlength Frankie.

The Model: Floorlength Frankie:

Frankie has worked as a professional life model for 10 years, within the wonderful artistic community of Brighton, and is now glad to have the possibility of collaborating with groups worldwide.
She grew her hair long inspired by the tragic heroines of the pre-Raphaelite paintings, to whom there is no better time to pay homage than now, during this time locked in.

https://www.instagram.com/floorlengthfrankie/

The inspirational artist: Käthe Kollwitz

As a woman and a mother at the turn of the twentieth century Kollwitz thoughtfully rendered her hardships and that of her surroundings into grim, expressionistic and timeless pieces of social commentary. As a painter, printer and sculptor the German artist has created visualizations of hope, anger, despair and isolation, sometimes verging on realism, sometimes expressionistic displays of sorrow.

Beth April 21

The session will be inspired by the life and art of Dora Maar, we will focus on the weeping woman portraits Pablo Picasso made of her, the surrealistic photos she made herself and the Man Ray photos for which she modeled.

image (1).jpeg

Model Beth:

Beth Reeks is a life model with a good 29 years of experience. She is influenced by the fashion and art of the 1920's and 30's, butshe insists on keeping an open mind for all different periods of art and fashion. But above all she has a fascination for Dora Maar.

Inspirational theme: Dora Maar

image.jpeg

Dora Maar was beautiful, intelligent, experimental and ahead of her time. She was one of Picasso's muses and possibly one of his most well-known muses, and this may not have helped as it sometimes overshadowed her own talents. She deserves to be acknowledged for her own artistic career. She explored alternative artistic avenues of film, street photography and fashion shoots. She was Man Ray's assistant at one point, and this had quite an impact and inspired her to create some surreal dreamlike photographic imagery. She found success with both her photography and her painting. She lived to a good old age, but Picasso’s departure for his next muse left her disillusioned for quite some time. She ainted until the end of her life.

The session will be inspired by the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, with their focus on the desire for passion and their precision of expressing these feelings. In our session our model will recite her own poetry in a setup that will echo the romantic period, with its flowers, warm colours and use of mirrors.

NaomiDec2020-3944.jpg

Model Naomi:

She is a performance artist creating pieces that incite riotous acts of joyful disobedience, celebrating empowerment and rebellion, while merging circus with storytelling and poetry with burlesque. She believes in the transcendental and unifying power of creativity and self-expression and the importance of silliness and sensuality.

The style: The Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood

The name Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood referred to the groups’ opposition to the Royal Academy’s promotion of the Renaissance master Raphael.

They were also in revolt against the triviality of the immensely popular genre painting of time. Inspired by the theories of John Ruskin, who urged artists to ‘go to nature’, they believed in an art of serious subjects treated with maximum realism. Their principal themes were initially religious, but they also used subjects from literature and poetry, particularly those dealing with love and death.

They also explored modern social problems. Its principal members were William Holman Hunt, John Everett Millais, and Dante Gabriel Rossetti. After initial heavy opposition the Pre-Raphaelites became highly influential, with a second phase of the movement from about 1860, inspired particularly by the work of Rossetti, making major contribution to symbolism.

ArtmakessenseLife Drawing Zoom session with Nasim, inspired by the art of Hieronymus Bosch

In this session we will recreate scenes as depicted in Bosch’ Garden
of Earthly Delights. We will focus on the different emotions that can
be found in this work. The set up for this session will utilize Bosch’
iconic sceneries, especially his use of fruit and his vibrant greens.

DSCF0191.jpg

Model Nasim:

Nasim is a life model based in Glasgow, Scotland, where she also works
as a translator and DJ. She started posing for local drawing groups in
the summer of 2020 and has, since autumn, primarily been working
online for groups around the world. For her, modelling is a meditative
experience, and presence is her core value as a model.

You can find
out more about her at https://www.nasimluczaj.com/ and https://www.instagram.com/nasimluczaj/.

The artist: Hieronymus Bosch

Hieronymus Bosch was born around 1450 in the southern Dutch province
of Brabant. Little is known about the specifics of his life. However,
his religious art containing nightmarish and macabre depictions of
hell and empyreal scenes of paradise have left a legacy that still
resonates today. Arguably, his most famous work is The Garden of
Earthly Delights, a work consisting of three panels depicting both
paradise and hell. In our session we will focus on the central panel,
with its nude, innocent and joyously self-absorbed figures, its
oversized fruit and fantastical compound animals, and the right panel
depicting hell and eternal damnation.

WhatIfWeFly

Artmakessense Life Drawing, March 24 with Maria (@WhatIfWeFly) inspired by the art of Vanessa Beecroft

Life drawing zoom session with Maria, inspired by the art of Vanessa Beecroft.

Maria will put on white body paint on her face and body. Posing on a black background. The women in the art performances of Vanessa are looking very neutral, as if they are mannequins, living sculptures. We focus on portraits and full body. The dry white paint asks for improvisation , maybe working on a dark colour paper.

Inspirational artist: Vanessa Beecroft

Born in Genoa, Italy, in 1969. Lives in Los Angeles, CA.

Vanessa Beecroft’s work has been shown internationally since 1993, and has shaped performance art, the representation of the female body, and the sociopolitical discussions of art.
Beecroft’s performances highlight the tensions between nakedness and clothing, constraint and freedom, the collective and the individual, and human strength and weakness.

Video on Vanessa Beecroft : https://youtu.be/ox3dNRKdBuQ

Model: Maria / WhatIfWeFly

Maria considers herself hugely fortunate to life model full time and adore working with creative people. She is constantly inspired and in awe of the variety of never ending possibilities art creates.

Vanessa Beecroft is a huge inspiration. Maria loves the strong female presence in her work. That sometimes uneasy mix of mannequin, female power, elegance and with her painted series a hark back to classical sculpture. With paired back performances you are forced to confront what may make you feel uncomfortable.

Online Lifedrawing with Ivory Lust , Baya Inspired

In this session we take the art of Baya Mahieddine as inspiration. This Algerian artist painted a joyful scene of women. Exotic settings, flamboyant dresses, lots of colorful fabrics.. Baya's artwork largely appears to reenact a vibrant and joyful community of women. The bold colors and strange figures of her works revealed surrealist and dream-like qualities inspired artists such as Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso, André Breton who defined her work as Surrealism.

Model : Ivory Lovelust

https://www.instagram.com/ivorylovelust/
We are happy to have Ivory Lovelust modeling for us. She is a beautiful curvy model. Her whole body is full of colourful tattoos . Her clothes are rich and exotic , like in the Algerian paintings of Baya .

Inspirational Artist :
Baya Mahieddine , Algerian painter and sculptor (who, as an artist, went only by her first name). Baya’s works depict exuberant scenes of women.. And there are no men. Goddess-queens whose ovaries were marked by flamboyant birds and whose vulva was represented by a red-winged butterfly. Her crown was tall and swathed with flowers. In her gouaches dominated by vibrant colors, she often paints silhouettes of women and their clothes, belts and veils, figures of the enigmatic mother and different domestic objects. The objects surrounding these ladies are devoid of any shadow.

Baya's artwork largely appears to reenact a vibrant and joyful community of women.

The vibrant colors and sinuous contours of the figures in her gouaches offer unique representations of flora and fauna
